Some of the biggest countries including China have been accused of being responsible for destroying the natural beauty of the Earth. With environmental issues at the fore front of people’s minds, how are the nations of the world adapting to create a new greener world?
Recently there was a conference called COP 27, where many of the biggest countries met to discuss how to slow the potentially life-threatening problem of climate change. One of the big stories to come out of the conference was that vulnerable countries are seeking financial compensation for the damage they’ve done.
Another big story was China and India upsetting many climate protesters because neither party turned up to the event. Despite them feeling that they are some of the biggest emitters. As well as India’s being expected to rise with their economy.
China are the worst carbon emitters in the world. However, they wouldn’t appear to be trying to reverse this. However, China contradict this. A quote from China’s lead climate negotiator, Xie Zhenhua, said that China’s goals are “already ambitious.” As it stands now, China’s NDC, which includes peaking its emissions before 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality in 2060, is not aligned with keeping global temperatures from rising above 1.5°
It is essential that every country plays its part in combating the climate emergency. Looking forwards to next year and COP 28 something big could happen in the future.
